Magnesium – a vital mineral

For the Sep­tem­ber issue of the mag­a­zine “Vital­stoffe”, Dr. Son­ja John, Head of Prod­uct and Appli­ca­tion Man­age­ment at MAGNESIA, and Katrin Schultz, Busi­ness Devel­op­ment Man­ag­er at MAGNESIA, gave an infor­ma­tive inter­view on the sub­ject of min­er­als. The focus was on high­ly sol­u­ble mag­ne­sium oxide and its many pos­i­tive effects.

Mag­ne­sium is essen­tial for numer­ous meta­bol­ic process­es and the func­tion of the brain, heart and skele­tal mus­cles. It is a co-fac­tor for many enzymes that reg­u­late bio­chem­i­cal process­es such as ener­gy metab­o­lism, pro­tein syn­the­sis and blood sug­ar lev­els. How­ev­er, the fact is that many peo­ple con­sume less mag­ne­sium than rec­om­mend­ed, which can lead to defi­cien­cy symp­toms such as mus­cle weak­ness and cramps.

Son­ja John empha­sized in this con­text: “Mag­ne­sium oxide has a pos­i­tive effect on men­tal sta­bil­i­ty and of course also on the mus­cles and nerves.” She also empha­sized the impor­tance of mag­ne­sium oxide in food sup­ple­ments for gen­er­al health. Katrin Schultz added that a needs-based mag­ne­sium sup­ply is essen­tial to avoid symp­toms such as neu­ro­mus­cu­lar dys­func­tion and mus­cle cramps. She also explained the dif­fer­ent dosage forms of mag­ne­sium that can be cho­sen accord­ing to need and preference.
